Our 2205 (UNS S32205/S31803) duplex stainless steel coil combines the best attributes of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels through a carefully balanced dual-phase microstructure of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite. This unique metallurgical architecture delivers yield strength approximately double that of conventional 304/316 austenitic grades while maintaining excellent toughness, superior resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC), and good general corrosion resistance. The high strength-to-weight ratio enables significant reductions in material thickness and structural weight for pressure-containing equipment, translating directly to lower material costs, reduced fabrication and welding consumables, and decreased transportation expenses. The 22Cr-5Ni-3Mo nominal composition with controlled nitrogen addition (0.14-0.20%) provides a PREN of 34-35, substantially exceeding 316L (PREN ~24-26). The ferrite phase provides high strength and SCC resistance, while the austenite phase contributes ductility, toughness, and general corrosion resistance. Our 2205 coils are manufactured through EAF with AOD refining for precise nitrogen control, continuous casting with optimized secondary cooling to avoid sigma phase precipitation, hot rolling under controlled parameters, solution annealing at 1020-1100C followed by rapid water quenching, and cold rolling with bright annealing. Every heat is rigorously tested for ferrite content (ASTM E562), intermetallic phase absence (ASTM A923 Method C), and mechanical properties including impact toughness.

2205 duplex stainless steel coils are specified for demanding applications requiring combined high strength, excellent chloride SCC resistance, and good general corrosion performance. Key sectors include oil and gas production (subsea flowlines, topside process piping, seawater injection systems, produced water treatment), chemical processing (acetic acid equipment, sulfuric acid coolers, phosphoric acid process equipment, organic acid reactors), marine and offshore (seawater cooling systems, firewater piping, desalination plant high-pressure piping, offshore wind turbine structural components), pulp and paper (digester components, bleach plant washers, chemical recovery boiler tubing), food processing (high-chloride environments such as soy sauce and cheese production), and renewable energy (geothermal brine handling, biomass gasification equipment, concentrated solar power molten salt storage).
Packaging & Quality Assurance2205 duplex coils receive premium protective packaging with acid-free interleaving paper, heavy-duty duplex-specific VCI inhibitors, multi-layer waterproof polyethylene with heat-sealed seams, heavy-duty edge protection rings, and high-tensile steel strapping. Coils on steel cradles or ISPM 15 pallets. Container stowage with timber blocking, pneumatic dunnage bags, and rated lashing chains. Each coil has a weatherproof tag with complete traceability. Full EN 10204 Type 3.1 certification including ferrite content and intermetallic phase verification (ASTM A923 Method C). Type 3.2 third-party certification available.
