Pickled Oiled SPHC SPHD Hot Rolled Carbon Steel Coil 0.8mm-6.0mm Clean Surface Ready for Stamping

Our pickled and oiled SPHC and SPHD carbon steel coils deliver the clean, scale-free surface that modern sheet metal fabrication, stamping, and coating operations demand. The continuous hydrochloric acid pickling process completely removes the mill scale and oxide layer inherent to hot rolled steel, revealing a uniform light gray surface that is immediately ready for downstream processing. Unlike hot rolled black coils that require mechanical descaling, sandblasting, or shot blasting before use, our pickled and oiled material integrates directly into your production workflow, reducing processing steps, labor costs, and lead times. The post-pickling tension leveling operation corrects shape defects commonly present in hot rolled material while imparting controlled surface roughness that optimizes paint adhesion, coating uniformity, and forming lubricant retention. The carefully formulated rust-preventive oil provides months of indoor corrosion protection without interfering with welding, bonding, or coating processes. From automotive structural stampings and appliance cabinets to metal furniture and electrical enclosures, our pickled and oiled coils provide the quality surface and reliable formability that manufacturing operations require.

Key Features
  • Scale-Free Clean Surface: Our pickled and oiled carbon steel coils undergo continuous push-pull pickling in hydrochloric acid baths that completely remove mill scale and surface oxides from the hot rolling process. The resulting surface is uniformly clean, light gray in appearance, and free from scale-related defects that would otherwise compromise downstream coating adhesion, welding quality, or surface-critical forming operations.
  • Optimized Surface for Subsequent Processing: The pickled surface provides an ideal substrate for cold rolling, galvanizing, painting, powder coating, and welding operations. Unlike hot rolled black surface which requires mechanical descaling or grit blasting, pickled and oiled coils are ready for immediate processing, eliminating a costly and time-consuming preparation step from your manufacturing workflow.
  • Precision Tension Leveling After Pickling: Following the pickling process, all coils pass through a tension leveler that corrects shape defects and improves flatness. This step also imparts a controlled surface roughness that enhances paint and coating adhesion. The result is consistently flat material with uniform surface texture that performs predictably in automated processing equipment.
  • SPHC and SPHD Drawing Quality Grades: We offer SPHC for general forming applications and SPHD for drawing quality requirements with improved elongation and lower yield strength. Both grades are produced to JIS G3131 standards and are fully characterized with mechanical property testing on every heat. The controlled chemistry and processing ensure reliable formability for your specific part geometry requirements.
  • Uniform Rust-Preventive Oil Film: A precisely controlled application of rust-preventive oil provides 3-6 months of indoor corrosion protection without interfering with stamping lubricants, welding processes, or paint adhesion. The oil is applied at a controlled weight (typically 0.5-1.5 g/m² per side) to ensure consistent protection while minimizing oil carryover into your production environment.
  • Multiple Thickness and Width Options: Available in thickness from 0.8mm to 6.0mm and widths from 600mm to 1500mm, our pickled and oiled coils cover the most commonly specified dimensions for sheet metal fabrication, stamping, and general manufacturing. Custom slitting to narrower widths is available for customers requiring specific strip dimensions for automated feed lines.
  • Complete Documentation Package: Each coil ships with mill test certificates documenting chemical composition, mechanical properties (yield, tensile, elongation), dimensional measurements, and surface quality classification. Additional testing including bend tests, hardness measurements, and surface roughness profiles are available upon request, supporting your quality assurance and incoming material verification requirements.

Applications

Pickled and oiled SPHC and SPHD carbon steel coils are the workhorse material for general sheet metal fabrication, automotive stamping, and industrial manufacturing applications. Primary uses include automotive structural stampings (cross members, brackets, reinforcements, seat frames), appliance bodies and internal structural components (washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters), electrical enclosures and cabinet panels, HVAC ductwork and equipment housings, metal furniture frames and shelving systems, agricultural and construction equipment panels, general industrial stampings and fabrications, tube and pipe manufacturing (as feed material for ERW mills), trailer and container structural components, and heavy equipment guarding and enclosures. The clean surface eliminates the need for pre-processing descaling, making these coils particularly cost-effective for operations that paint, powder coat, or galvanize after forming. SPHD drawing quality grade is recommended for parts requiring moderate drawing or stretching, while SPHC commercial quality serves general bending and forming applications.

Packaging & Quality Assurance

Pickled and oiled coils receive comprehensive protective packaging to preserve the clean surface condition during storage and transportation. Each coil is first wrapped in acid-free interleaving paper followed by VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) anti-rust paper that provides active corrosion protection throughout the packaging. A heavy-duty waterproof polyethylene outer wrap with taped seams prevents moisture ingress during ocean transit. The coil is secured with high-tensile steel strapping in both circumferential (minimum 4 straps) and radial (through-bore) orientations. Edge protection rings on both faces prevent mechanical damage during handling. Coils are palletized on treated wooden skids or steel cradles for forklift handling and container loading. Container stowage includes timber blocking, air bags, and steel lashing to prevent coil movement. Every shipment includes EN 10204 3.1 certificates, surface quality inspection reports, dimensional conformance documentation, and fumigation certificates where required. Our ISO 9001:2015 quality system ensures consistent packaging quality and complete traceability from heat to coil.
